Energy China debuts at Boao Forum for Asia, focusing on integrated energy development

2022-04-21

The sub-forum on “Energy Integration and Development for a Green World" of the 2022 Annual Conference of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) was held in Hainan, China on April 20.

Li Baodong, former Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, Song Hailiang, Chairman of China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (Energy China), Liu Jizhen, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the State Key Laboratory of New Energy Power Systems, Ali Obaid Al Dhaheri, Ambassador of UAE to China, and Joël Ruet, Chairman of the Bridge Tank attended the sub-forum.

The sub-forum was held by Energy China, one of the largest comprehensive solutions providers for the power industry globally. It was the first time for Energy China to join the BFA.

Li Baodong pointed out that the energy sector is a key front where the world makes efforts to achieve the carbon peak and neutrality goals. To advance the energy revolution and make technologies greener and low-carbon calls for synergetic and complementary efforts from multiple energy resources, coordinated progress between the energy industry and the construction, transport and industrial sectors, innovative development of new digital energy forms, and international cooperation on integrated energy development.

Song Hailiang stressed the importance of properly handling the unstable and unbalanced relationship between traditional energy and renewable energy, and proposed to make the relationship safe and reliable, economical and efficient, as well as clean and low-carbon.

He also introduced that Energy China is striving to build a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient energy system and a new power system with new energy as the mainstay. Focusing on integrated development, the enterprise adheres to the integration of the "seven networks" of energy, transportation, digital, water, ecology, industry and culture, and highlights cross-border integration, elemental integration, industrial integration and regional integration.

The enterprise will continue to enlarge its own advantage in the whole industry chain in the field of energy, focusing on the implementation of major energy integration projects, such as the integration of power source, power grid, power load and energy storage, the integration of multi-energy complementarity, etc., so as to provide more reliable solutions to integrated energy development and make its contribution to the green development, Song stressed.

Liu Jizhen believes that the clean exploitation of fossil energy, massive production of clean energy and combination of multiple energy forms shall guide energy development today and in the near future. He said new energy shall gradually take the dominant position of fossil energy in the general energy structure, thus contributing to the realization of the zero-carbon goal.

Ali Obaid Al Dhaheri disclosed that the UAE, as a major oil producer, is further increasing its investment in the new energy sector to better cope with the post-petroleum era. According to him, the country's energy mix by 2050 will comprise 44% from renewables.

The technology of deep decarbonization is likely to be massively promoted between 2035 and 2040, said Joël Ruet. Therefore, the primary task today is to ensure that the "transition pathways" designed by countries and regions are aiming at not only increasing the share of renewable energy, but also seeking more effective ways of renewable energy consumption.
